Workshops run as specified at Mechanics Hall in downtown Portland.
Discover your most relaxed, flexible, and expressive voice in this interactive course designed as a laboratory of creative experimentation. Each session will focus on a different aspect of vocal production that will help guide you toward greater confidence in and a deeper connection to authentic self-expression. Take all four workshops to learn the elements of a comprehensive vocal warm up, or choose individual sessions to focus on a particular area of interest or concern. The coursework is created for anyone who engages in public speaking of any kind as well as anyone who simply wants to explore their voice as a powerful tool for clear and effective communication. No previous experience or training necessary. Students are required to prepare 8-10 lines of memorized text from any source to use in class exercises.
We will experiment with ways to offer the fullest range of sound and emotion in our spoken expression through games and exercises focusing on musicality, appropriate volume, stress/emphasis, and tempo.
We will play games and explore various techniques for approaching text for meaning and emotional connection specifically through vocal experimentation and choices. Participants will be offered one-on-one coaching and feedback on their prepared text.
