Help us get this year’s MPF off the ground with a year-end donation
For the past 13 years, Acorn Productions has produced the MPF, presenting over 100 short plays by Maine-based playwrights in full productions as well as a number of staged readings of full-length plays. The opportunity to have their plays professionally produced offers an invaluable service to these playwrights, and many scripts that premiered at the MPF have subsequently been showcased across the country. The MPF also provides local actors and directors with the exciting experience of bringing brand new plays to life, in addition to offering audiences the dynamic opportunity to witness the birth of these theatrical pieces. There is no other event in the state quite like the MPF, which will take place this year from May 14 to 17 at the St. Lawrence Arts Center in Portland.
From its early beginnings as a series of dramatic readings at Acorn’s former studio on Congress Street, Acorn continues to develop the MPF into a highly regarded incubator for new scripts. This year, we are pleased to welcome Daniel Burson as MPF15’s co-Artistic Director. Daniel Burson is a freelance dramaturg and director in Portland. He was formerly the Literary & Education Manager of Portland Stage Company, where he administered the Clauder Competition for New England Playwrights and curated nine seasons of Portland Stage’s Little Festival of the Unexpected.
Over the years, Acorn has developed the work of dozens of playwrights, as well as nurturing the community of playwrights by creating a vital focal point for their work. To further assist the playwrights whose work is selected to be a part of MPF15, we are adding staged readings and a residency by a nationally-known playwright. These new aspects of the festival will further assist playwrights in learning more about their craft and improving the final versions of their scripts.
We are asking for your help to keep the MPF firing on all cylinders with a tax-deductible contribution to help Acorn to underwrite the costs of MPF15. All donations, no matter what the size, will help us in our work by underwriting the stipends for many of the artists who help to present this unique event.
Please let us know how important the MPF is to our community by donating today. We know that there are many pressures on your philanthropic budget, but do hope you agree that the MPF is an institution deserving of support for all creative stimulation it provides our community.
