INTRO TO SHAKESPEARE
taught by Michael Levine
If you are a lover of Shakespeare and want to learn the power of his poetry in performance, join us for this introductory course for actors and academics alike! Students will begin with a general review of how to read and understand his language, continuing through a course of study in imagery, meter, rhetoric, and many other devices Shakespeare uses to bring his characters to life. Select students from this class will be invited to continue their studies in Naked Shakespeare’s acting conservatory on Monday nights this winter. No acting (or Shakespeare) experience necessary!
Mondays nights October 15 to November 12
(begins Oct. 15 and meets for 5 sessions)
(class runs 6 to 9pm on 10/15 – 6 to 7pm all other Mondays)
$90 new student/$80 returning/$50 college student
taught by Jared Culverhouse and Lindsey Higgins
At this workshop, two experienced teaching artists will guide participants through preparing for auditions, careful selection of material, and developing characterizations. Many of us have taken an acting class, or been in a play, but haven’t worked in a while. Oftentimes fear can be overwhelming. Come join us for our 4 hour intensive that will focus on cold readings, monologues, and various techniques to handle the rigors of auditioning. This versatile workshop is suitable both for the new actor eager for more experience and the seasoned veteran ready to advance their career. This workshop covers it all!
Saturday, November 3 from 10am to 2pm
$60 new student/$45 returning
All classes take place at Mechanics Hall in downtown Portland except as noted
**Please note that tuition payments are non-refundable unless we have to cancel the class**
